Finding Stillness in the Christmas Rush

If there’s one thing we all know about Christmas, it’s this: the season is busy. Between decorating, baking, shopping, gifting, and hosting, the rush is almost impossible to escape. But here’s the truth—stillness doesn’t always mean stopping everything. Sometimes it’s about breathing in peace right in the middle of the whirlwind.
For me, that stillness comes through what I love most: crafting. When I sit down with paper, colours, or brushes, and put on soft Christmas music in the background, the world slows down. Each fold of paper, every brushstroke, every handmade detail becomes my way of exhaling the stress and inhaling joy. And of course, prayer is always woven through—it doesn’t stop just because I’m busy. In fact, the more I craft, the more my heart quietly prays.
“Be still, and know that I am God.” – Psalm 46:10
How do you pause in the middle of December chaos? Share one thing that gives you peace during the season—I’d love to hear your heart.
When Christmas Looked Different

The pandemic years shifted many things for me, including how I celebrated Christmas. Just after the pandemic, I had my first baby. That Christmas was quieter, slower. We did minimal décor, no big shopping sprees, and celebrated in the gentlest way possible.
Then came 2024—a year that redefined stillness for me completely. I gave birth to my son on December 13, right before Christmas. Recovering from delivery meant I couldn’t do any of my usual festive rituals. No late-night wrapping, no grand decorations, no big church events. It was simply me, my newborn son, my little daughter, and my husband.
It was the slowest Christmas I had ever known—and yet, it was one of the most intimate and sacred. In that stillness, I realized that Christmas doesn’t always need glitter and grandeur. Sometimes it’s enough to simply rest, breathe, and marvel at the miracle of life God has placed in your arms.
If you’ve ever had a Christmas that looked “different,” pause for a moment and thank God for the unique way He showed up in that season.
Stillness as Worship

Stillness, for me, isn’t about silence or sitting still. It’s about being present—with my craft, with music, with prayer, with my family, and most importantly, with God. The rush will always be there—gifts to buy, sweets to make, homes to decorate—but I’ve learned to find little oases of peace in the middle of it all.
And maybe that’s the point. We don’t need to step away from Christmas to find God—we can find Him in the middle of it. In every ribbon tied, in every carol sung, in every prayer whispered, in every quiet moment of gratitude.
“Peace is not the absence of noise, but the presence of Christ in the middle of it.”
This Christmas, don’t wait for the rush to end to find peace. Instead, find your stillness in the middle of it. And if you need inspiration, come back here—I’ll be sharing more ideas to keep the season meaningful, joyful, and heart-centred.
